World renowned sneaker shop and collaborator Patta joins up with Japanese-based shop BEAMS and Vans for a special three-way collab on the Vans Old Skool Womens this fall. Taking inspiration from an old Johnny Cash song, the “Mean Eyed Cat” Vans Old Skool for Sale features a premium build in all-black suede and canvas with large Patta logos behind the signature jazz stripes and “Team Patta” text printed on the laces. Adding to the bold branding is “Mean Eyed Cat” text on each midsole.
UK-based size? is making a strong case for the Vans collaborator of the year. After creating “Factory Floor” Vans Old Skool Mens that utilized sewn-together scraps of material for a wild patchwork look and Vans Style 36s inspired by made-to-order samples, they’re back on the collaborative trail again with a fresh collaborative take on the Vans Slip-On.
Taking to Instagram to tease his collaboration with Vans, BEAMS buyer and SSZ director Tadayuki Kato sheds some light on the inspiration behind the stunning release as well as some detailed pictures of the central motif. Influenced heavily by the skate culture that surrounds him — as is reflected by his label’s name of “Surf & Skate Zine — Kato sets out to revise the ever-Vans Old Skool Cheap in the deconstructive aesthetic he has become known for. Comprised of an off-white and black palette, the pair features a subtly stitched outline of the usual Jazz Stripe and clear waffle sole with an inside-out double tongue acting as the shoe’s focal point.
